About the Wildcat Community

Wildcat Community, Inc. is a consortium of Big Canoe, Bent Tree, Burnt Mountain Estates, Monument Falls, Sassafras Mountain Estates, Tate Mountain Estates, Tomahawk Mountain Civic Assn, Windsong and Wintermont communities; established to promote awareness, improve preparedness and provide funding support for emergency management services to protect our mountain wildland environment.

Independent property owners outside these communities have also joined in the effort.

  • Educate our property owners to protect people, property and natural resources from the risk of wildland fire, other natural disasters and emergency services responses
  • Seek funding to enhance support for emergency management capabilities
  • Interface with all state, local and federal agencies for emergency management/public safety

History

Organized as a 501(C)3 organization in 2006, the Wildcat Community was supported by Dawson – Forsyth County District of the Georgia Forestry Commission, Dawson and Pickens County governments.

Raised over $115,000 to help establish Pickens County Fire & Rescue Station 10, with mutual aid agreements to service Dawson County residents as well and staffed solely by trained community volunteers.

Recognized by the National Fire Protection Association as a Firewise USA™ Community, including receipt of the Firewise Leadership Award in 2008 by John Edwards and Don Wells and the 10 year award in 2016.
